Ribbed and Self-Lock Washers

Ribbed or self-lock washers increase friction between the screw head and the bearing surface, preventing loosening due to vibration. The ribs penetrate the contact surface—often aluminum—creating greater friction. In addition to distributing the load to protect the assembled surface, they prevent torque loss in threaded joints, thus effectively preventing loosening.
